We’re glad you are here…

Each Pen Therapy session is led by Juliette Sweeney, a Qualified Integrative Therapist (PGDip), author, blogger and professional writer (BA Creative Writing).

Behind the pen…

If I asked you to think back to the year 2020, what is the first thing that comes to mind? For many of us, 2020 marked the end of normality as we knew it, and we may have valid reasons why we would rather not think back to our experience during the pandemic.

This period, though testing for all, was the birthplace of Pen Therapy. As a writer and creative, I was inspired to create an offering that would allow others a place of solace during a time when lockdown was the new normal. It was clear that mental health challenges were at an all-time high, and many were desperate for support without knowing where to turn.

My words have always been a safe place for me, and I soon recognised the clear link between writing in my journal on wellbeing themes, and a strengthened sense of self-awareness and ultimately mental stability. I would still do what I do even if it wasn’t for a service like Pen Therapy, which makes what I do feel like that much more of a natural progression from a place of passion, instead of work.

Fast forward to a few years on from what felt like a dark time for many, and Pen Therapy remains a steady light for those who are seeking to prioritise their health of mind and grow into their truest sense of self.

“While sharing encouragement through personal social media content, I wanted to do more than post an inspiring quote. I had the idea to offer these sessions to support others as mental health and wellbeing continues to be particularly fragile.”

Words can be equally as destructive as they can be strengthening. In this space, we will share words of affirmation. Words of hope. Words of life. Thanks for being here, and we look forward to having you join us soon!

Think. Feel. Write.

What can you expect from a session?

All of the sessions are run via Zoom and last for an hour each.

Even though Pen Therapy factors in a group setting, your experience will be completely personal. With this in mind, all microphones remain muted throughout, and you can leave your camera off if you choose (perfect for those relaxing Sunday mornings in bed!) You get the benefit of knowing that others are writing along with you, but the session is entirely what you make it and there is never any expectation for you to share what you write.

Creative prompts are provided so you can follow along at your own pace, as all prompts are emailed through following the session. The session facilitator will take you on a journey with the prompts from beginning to end, and each session has a wellbeing focus.

Each session offers a judgement-free space designed solely for personal exploration and growth. No prior journaling experience is necessary! All you need is a pen and some paper…
